Water jug pumpkin

Do you not have the time to carve a pumpkin? Or simply just don't want to. Well I have a solution. The jug pumpkin!! This is quick, easy and the kids can do this all by themselves, with no sharp tools to worry about.

I simply filled a water jug up with water, added orange food coloring,( if you don't have orange food coloring, just mix red and yellow and vola!)

Then I took some black glitter paper, cut out the pumpkin, (although mine looks kinda scary lol, I am not good at cutting at the mouth of a pumpkin. Something just don't look right lol)

So next I just cut a wide green strip from contruction paper and wrapped it around the lid and taped.
Finally I took some curling ribbon and tied it around. You can use green, I only had white at the time.

And there's your pumpkin Jug! I mean Jug pumpkin. Heck call it what you want, LOL

Halloween safety

Halloween Costume Safety

1.) Select a safe and bright costume. Make sure your child’s costume (including beards, masks and wigs) is clearly marked as flame resistant or look for flame resistant fabrics such as nylon or polyester. If the costume does not have any reflective fabric, add your own reflective tape on the back and front. Avoid billowing or long trailing features, especially those made of lightweight fabrics or materials. Your child should wear well-fitting shoes to prevent trips and falls. Costume accessories, including swords and knives, should be soft and flexible.

2.) Masks can obstruct children’s vision and restrict breathing. Consider make-up instead, checking all labels to ensure that it is non-toxic. If children do wear a mask, make sure they can see and breathe easily.

  • 3.) Do not let children under age 12 go trick-or-treating or cross the street without the supervision of an adult on Halloween night. For guidance and safety’s sake, accompany younger children to the door of every house they visit.

  • 4). Make sure your child has his or her own flashlight or glow stick to illuminate pathways and curbs.

  • 5). Trick or treat with your smaller children during daylight hours.

  • 6.) Teens should always go trick-or-treating in a group. Advise them to only stop at familiar homes with an illuminated outdoor light. Remind teens that they should never enter a stranger’s home, car or walk in unpopulated areas. At least one child in their group should have a fully charged cell phone.

  • 7). Make sure you know where and when your teen will be trick or treating and with whom. It’s also a good idea to have the phone number of their friends’ parents in the event of an emergency.

  • 8). Illuminate jack-o-lanterns with flashlights or glow sticks. Avoid candles as they can pose a danger for trick-or-treaters who may come in contact with the open flames and ignite their costumes.

  • 9). Advise your child not to eat any of the candy until you have inspected it first. This is especially important if your child has any food allergies.

  • 10). Monitor their candy intake too. You’d be surprised at how much sugar, fat and calories a single, snack size candy bar has.

Outdoor trash bag terantrula

Okay, guys when I first found this I was like "omg look how big that is"! This is so much fun to make with the kids.

Materials
  • 18 large black trash bags
  • Leaves or newspaper
  • Black electrical tape
  • Large red plastic party cups
  • Clothesline, optional

All you do is:

To create the spider's body, stuff one trash bag full of dry leaves (you can also use crumpled newspaper). Tie the bag closed, then flip it upside down. To make the head, stuff a second bag (not as full as the first), tie it closed, and tape it to the body.

To make one of the legs, roll up two garbage bags together lengthwise. Wrap them with electrical tape at both ends and at two points along the leg to make joints. Roll up seven more legs, then cut four small slits in each side of the spider's body and slip the legs in place.

Cut the white lip off two of the red plastic cups, then tape them onto the spider's body to make his beady red eyes. For the fangs, ( I didn't add fangs to mine but here is how you can)cut two triangles out of the third plastic cup (or another piece of white plastic) and tape them onto the spider so that the white side faces up.

Perch the spider atop a big pile of relatively dry leaves. To create a web for her, simply weave and tie lengths of clothesline or twine across your porch. For an extra scary effect, tie a few unlucky stuffed animals to her web.

Tissue roll treat holder

Check out this cute treat holder made from....that's right, tissue rolls. I made it to look like a huge piece of candy. I thought it would be a cute idea if I fill these rolls up with candy and hand them out to my little trick or treaters. It is so simple to make and I am sure these would be a big hit at a party.

All you need is:
Tissue rolls
5-6 inch squares of tissue paper (your choice of color)
Curling ribbon or any kind of ribbon
Markers and/or stickers
Glue or glue stick

All you do is:
Take the tissue paper and wrap it around the tissue roll. Glue at the start of roll, and then at the end. Make sure there is at least 1 1/2 inches on the ends of the roll. (Cute to length you want after you tie it off)
At one end, use the ribbon to tie off, to resemble the end of a candy wrapper. If you used curling ribbon, use scissors to curl.
Leave the other end open, fill with candy, then do the same as you did to the first end.
Finally decorate the outside with whatever you have around the house. Halloween stickers, plastic spiders, markers. Just get creative!!

Just Some Fun Ideas

Construction Paper Creatures: Use construction paper to create ghosts, pumpkins, bats, spiders, and other spooky creatures. Get as creative as you like, and make half ghosts that peek out around corners as an example. For the pumpkins, orange paper creates the body, brown for the stem, green for the leaves, and black for the cutouts to make the face.
If you are using black construction paper for the bats and black cats you can use chalk rather than gel pens. If you want to make the bats and ghosts fly, punch a small hole at the top of the creations, and thread a fishing line through the hole and hang over vents or near a door that is opening and closing frequently so that they "fly."

Ghost Balloons: Blow up balloons. Take a large piece of lightweight material, such as a small white bed sheet, and place it over the balloon. Tie the neck with a string, and use a black marker for a ghostly face. Suspend the ghosts using the fishing line and suspending it from the neck of the ghost.

No-Carve Jack-o'-Lantern:  Take an empty milk jug and clean it out with warm soapy water. Then refill with clean water. Pour some food coloring into the water (green or orange will fit the pumpkin theme). Clover the milk jug with the cap and shake the water around so the color is evenly distributed. Take scraps of yarn or ribbon and glue to the top of the milk jug to give it some hair, or throw on a hat to top off the look.

Old Clothes Scarecrow: Take an old pair of jeans, plaid shirt, work gloves, shoes, and hat and a brown paper bag to create a Halloween scarecrow. Have the kids rake up the leaves in the yard to collect the leaves for stuffing the scarecrow. The face can be the brown paper bag stuffed with the leaves and the hat pulled down over the bag to hide that there really isn't a face there. Place the scarecrow either in a chair on the front porch or sitting under a tree in the front yard.

Cardboard Graveyard: Make a graveyard out of your front yard by using old cardboard appliance boxes. Cut them down to tombstone size, spray paint them black, and then use white paint to outline the headstone. Using a small paint brush, paint different, spooky, funny, and anything goes epithets on the tombs. Place them in the front yard, weighing them down with a brick.

Spider Web: A spider web that you buy at your local drugstore will go a long way in decorating any corner area of your home and/or front porch. They often come with some plastic spiders as well for further decorations.

Kid friendly Halloween Movies

Also if you know of some good movies, please feel free to post them below. Whose got the popcorn? Lol. Click on the movie to order online at Amazon.com.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
The Great Pumpkin (1966 unrated)
Dubbed by a critic as one of "the most sincere of all Halloween specials," this classic should not be missed. How can you let Halloween pass without watching the Peanuts gang dressing up in Halloween costumes? Meanwhile, Linus tries to make his gang believe that the "Great Pumpkin" does exist.

E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial (2-Disc Widescreen Limited Collector's Edition)

ET (1982 rated G)
After being stranded on Earth when a spaceship leaves without him, a friendly Extra-Terrestrial (affectionately known as E.T.) develops a close relationship with 10-year-old Elliot and his siblings. The kids protect their new friend, help him build a communications device to "phone home," and even dress him up for Halloween. This heartwarming story of friendship is a delight for the entire family.

Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie
Pooh Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005 rated G)
It's Lumpy the Heffalump's first Halloween, and he's scared out of his wits! Pooh and the gang are so frightened of an imaginary monster they call the Gobloon, they determine that they'll need to go out and catch it - scaring themselves silly in the process! Besides its gentle humor and cuddly characters, Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie has some valuable lessons to teach kids about facing their fears.
Casper (Widescreen Special Edition)
Casper (1995 PG)
Furious that her late father only willed her his gloomy-looking mansion rather than his millions, Carrigan Crittenden (Moriarty) is ready to burn the place to the ground when she discovers a map to a treasure hidden in the house. But when she enters the rickety mansion to seek her claim, she is frightened away by a wicked wave of ghosts. Determined to get her hands on this hidden fortune, she hires afterlife therapist Dr. James Harvey (Pullman) to exorcise the ghosts from the mansion. Harvey and his daugh- ter Kat (Ricci) move in, and soon Kat meets Casper, the ghost of a young boy who’s “the friendliest ghost you know.”
Monster House (Widescreen Edition)Monster House [Blu-ray 3D Version]
Monster House (2006 rated PG)
Eddie Murphy stars as a real estate agent and a neglectful father who, with the help of his family and a psychic, attempts to rid Gracey Manor of 999 ghosts. A few scary scenes and several humorous ones make it appealing to tweens and older children. Rated PG, Walt Disney Pictures

Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus (1993 rated PG)
More than 300 years ago, 3 witches were sentenced to die in Salem, Massachusetts and a boy was turned into a cat (a black cat, naturally). Now it’s Halloween, and the witches (who fly on – I kid you not – vacuum cleaners) are back. This time, they’ve got their eyes on immortal life and have turned their wrath on trick-or-treaters and it’s up to the 300-year-old cat to save the day.

Ghostbusters [Blu-ray]
Ghostbuster (1984 rated PG)
Three odd-ball scientists get kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists for money. They wise-crack their way through the city, and stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, one which will release untold evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple. This film is a timeless cult classic.

Winnie the Pooh - Boo to You Too [VHS]
Boo to you too Winnie The Pooh (1996 unrated)

The Little Vampire
The Little Vampire (2000 rated PG)

Monsters, Inc. (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Monsters Inc
In a land of monsters, James P. Sullivan is king. He and his coworker/ friend Mike Wazowski are two of many monsters that work for Monsters Inc. a utility company that generates power for a very paranoid and nervous city of monsters. This power, oddly enough, is generated from the screams of children, which is produced by scaring them in their sleep. One night, however, Sully uncovers a devious plot to rid Monster city of it’s power problems, but in all the wrong ways. Together, ironically, Sully and Mike will fight to protect the innocence of the children they scare every night.

Clifford the Big Red Dog: Clifford's Big Halloween
Cliffords Big Halloween
Chock-full of thrills and chills. Your kids will love the mishaps of the Big Red Dog as he gets accidentally trapped in a bed sheet and scares his neighbors in one fun-packed Halloween night

SpongeBob SquarePants - Halloween
Spongebob Squarepants Halloween
Dive into the underwater town of Bikini Bottom with the adorable sea sponge and his friends as they embark on one eerie adventure after another. Five action-packed episodes include "Scaredy Pants," "Imitation Krabs," "Frankendoodle," "I Was a Teenage Gary," and "Squidward, the Unfriendly Ghost."

The Witches (Keepcase)
The Witches
This macabre on-screen adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel is a gripping treat for both kids and adults. An orphaned boy moves with his grandmother to an English hotel, where a horrifying group of child-hating witches is holding a convention. What follows is definitely not a fairy tale but a sinister black comedy where good does eventually win over evil.

Spider ring

We all know the same ole plastic spider rings we purchase around this time of year to place in the goodie bags or for the little goblins and princesses at our doorsteps. Well I have made this cute spider ring that looks soo much better than the original. You can make alot of these and pass them out or this can be a fun craft to make at you Halloween party. This is all you have to do....

You will need a small pom pom, 2 pipe cleaners, and 1 set of tiny googly eyes.

Take the pipe cleaners and cut  8, 1 inch pieces, these will be the legs. Take the pom pom and hot glue the the legs to it. 4 on each side.  Bend the ends of each leg to form little feet. Add the eyes. I used the adhesive back eyes, but of course you can glue the eyes on.
For the ring, measure the size you want by wrapping a piece of pipe cleaner up around your finger to form a "u". Once you get the desired size twist the ends one time. Cut off excess, leaving just enough for the spider to have a little support on both side. Don't need much.
And that's it. See how simple and cute.

Okay soo I am going to ditch my halloween schedule and just mix all the catagories toghether. I think that would be better anyway. Keep an eye out for the contest details.

Tips to read before selecting a Halloween costume for your child

I am trying to make this Halloween as easy and problem free for you as much as I can. I have added these simple tips to help you and your child stay comfortable  for the big night.
•  Select a costume that won't fall apart before the
   night's festivities are over.

• Make sure the costume won't hamper your child's movement.

• Consider face paint as a safe alternative to masks,
   especially for younger children.

• If the costume is elaborate, dress your child in simple clothing underneath.
This way they can easily change to play games or take a break.

• Solid color turtlenecks and sweat pants are an easy and comfortable
costume starter for kids. Add hats, wigs, capes, wings, face paint etc.

• Keep your child's restroom needs in mind...snaps, zippers, complicated
attire can ruin the evening or a party with an accident.

• Don't work yourself into a frenzy. This is supposed to be
fun for you and your child.

• If trick-or-treating after dusk, have kids carry a flashlight and use a glow
stick necklace to wear over the costume. Reflective tape on the treat bag
are also helpful. If you can work the safety aspects into the costume,
even better. For example a flashlight and easily be a light saber, a super
hero cape can be trimmed with reflective tape as can fairy wings or a
  princess wand.

Week 4 (22nd-31st) Safety and other fun ideas and tips~ This week will be all about safety when going out trick or treating, having a party, and any other halloween safety tip that you could use. Lets make this halloween a fun and safe night for your child. Okay now lets get started!

Bee Costume

What you'll need:

Main Bee Costume:
  • Black hooded sweatshirt
  • Yellow duct tape
  • 2 yellow chenille stems
  • 2 yellow pom-poms
  • Pencil
  • 1/4" elastic
  • Safety pin
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue stick
  • Rubbing alcohol (optional)
Bumblebee Wings:
  • 2 sheets stiff white or yellow felt
  • 1 sheet yellow felt
  • 1/4" elastic
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue sticks

How to make it:

  1. Lay sweatshirt flat on work surface, facing up. Put a duct tape stripe across the chest, stretching from one sleeve seam to the other.
  2. Add two or three more stripes of duct tape, equally spaced from each other.
  3. Add matching stripes on the back of the sweatshirt.
  4. For antennae, wrap a yellow chenille stem around a pencil to curl it.  Fold one end of chenille stem around edge of hood. Tape the end on the underside of hood with a piece of duct tape to secure it in place.  Attach a pom-pom to the free end of the chenille stem with hot glue.
  5. Cut a small slit in the inside layer of the waistband. Attach the end of the 1/4" elastic to a safety pin, and thread the elastic through the waistband until it goes all the way around and comes out through the slit.  Cinch the elastic so the waistband is slightly gathered, but not uncomfortable. Tie the ends of the elastic together and clip excess. Tuck the knot inside the waistband.
  6. To make wings, to cut two large teardrop shapes out of stiff white or yellow felt. Cut a smaller football shape ("center piece") out of plain yellow felt, and a 1x3" rectangle from the same felt. Cut two 12" pieces of 1/4" elastic.
  7. To assemble, lay the center piece good side down on work surface. Hot glue wings to the center piece. Hot glue each 12" piece of elastic to the center of the wings in a large loop, then hot glue the small rectangle of felt over everything to hide the edges of the elastic.
  8. To wear wings, put your child's arms through the elastic straps like a backpack.

Tips:

  1. For best results cut duct tape with scissors instead of ripping it. Parents only: If your scissors get gummed up from the tape's adhesive, use a bit of rubbing alcohol and a piece of tissue to clean the blade.
  2. If you don't want to make wings, you can often find readymade wings in the dress-up area of the toy aisle at a department store or dollar store.
  3. For a rounder, fuller bee, stuff the sweatshirt with recycled grocery bags. For toddlers, stuff costumes with polyester fiber fill stuffing.
  4. Wear this costume with neutral bottoms: jeans, black pants, or tights are all good choices.
  5. When you're done with the costume, just remove the duct tape and the elasticized waistband, and your hooded sweatshirt is ready for everyday wear.
Here are some more links with bee costumes

Sesame Street Party

I can loose my mind on a Sesame Street theme. There are soo many ideas that go with a sesame street party. Elmo was my very first party I ever did. My oldest daughter was turning two, and she loved Elmo. So from somewhere I don't know where, came all of these ideas, and creativity. Up until then I had not a creative bone in my body. At least not for childrens parties.
If your child is only into one or two of the characters then just do those two and maybe have some of the other characters in unsuspected areas such as the bathroom. The kids will love it!

Decorations
Search Amazon.com for sesame street party supplies
Every party must have a fun entry door. This gets the little guest excited. Seeing a fun doorway means there's something fun going on, on the other side. So if the guest have to go through a door before entering,  Decorate the door very festive. One example would be,  attach a red background using wrapping paper or bulletin board paper. If you are good at drawing simple characters, draw the heads of all or most of the main characters using either posterboard or construction paper. Or you may also purchase sesame street cutouts if you are not a good artist, and arrange them all over the door. You can also add cut out balloon shapes, with dangling curling string. You my also add "Welcome to (childs name) party", "Come on In" or "It's a Sesame Street Party!"

Inside the party area you can of course have helium balloons in Sesame Street colors (red ,yellow, blue and green). Tie about 3 in a bunch and different heights. Make paper weights to tie the balloons to. Use the same color scheme when using crepe paper (streamers) and tape to the corners of the walls where wall meets ceiling. Make an "x" shape or you can take it from one corner to the other in the shape of the room, normally a square shape.

For the walls you can make more heads or bodies and tape them all over the room. I know when I did my daughters Elmo party, I taped Elmo all over the walls and had each one saying something like "Elmo so happy to see you", Elmo thinks you're sweet" or "Happy Birthday (b-day child)"
If your child only like 1 or 2 characters, You can make the other characters peeking from behind a couch, a table, or a television. It will be like they wished they could have been invited.

Use your childs Sesame Street toys for decorations also. Place them everywhere. If this is a party where the little guest are too young to play actual games or if you are going to have some guest there that may be younger than the birthday child, I suggest a fun play area. If you have a small toddler pool, fill it with plastic balls, have some toddler toys out, puzzles, blocks, noise makers and more. You can even decorate this area with streamers and small balloons. This will the keep the younger babies/children busy. You could also have a small television in the play area, where they can watch a Sesame Street dvd.
Cardboard boxes are always a hit with toddlers. If you or someone you know can paint one of the Sesame Street buildings it would make a huge difference in the room. With the cardboard you can even make giant cutouts of the characters. Either of these would be a great spot for each guest to take a picture in front of as a party souvenir.

For the party table you can use Sesame Street tablecloth or a plain color like red, yellow, blue, or green. A big Sesame Street toy, stuffed animal or the cake can be used as the centerpiece. Sprinkle confetti all over the table. Small Sesame Street happy meal like toys can also be added to the table.  Place the party ware on the table and you are set!

Spiderman

Spiderman

Spiderman, Spiderman, Spiderman . Lawd have mercy! Yall I had a secret crush on Spiderman when I was growin g up. Nobody ever knew about it. I surely wasn't going to expose my crush to anyone exspecially with it being a cartoon character. To be honest it was something about the way he could actually stick to the side of a building, lol. Seriously I remember always thinking "how is that possible"...I'm in love". I think because I didn't know, was the reason I was in love, don't ask.
I think I still have small crush, but don't tell my husband.lol. Maybe I can get him to dress up like Spiderman this Halloween. lol.
Anyway back in July I made some spiderman decorations for my little 4 year old cousin. I don't think he knew I was bringing decorations. So while he was outside, I put giant spiderman heads on each wall (it was a small livingroom so it made a huge difference). I made black spiders to go around the heads. So with only that on the walls, my little cousin walks back in and his mouth just fell open, he was cheezing from ear to ear. And he said in a whisper "wowww". That was confirmation... I had accomplished my goal. Throughout the party he kept coming to me saying "Shon (my nickname) I like my party".
That is truely my favorite part of decorating for childrens parties, seeing their big smiles...Priceless! So I hope these decorations help you put that endless smile on your childs face. Remember it doesn't take much to make a child smile.

Decorations
For the entry door, tape some red bulletin board or wrapping paper on the door. Make and tape the spiderman symbol to the door. Just that symbol will say enough.
In the party room, use black pipecleaners to make 4 spiderwebs and put them up in the corners of the ceiling/walls. Dangle plastic spiders from them, or sit bigger size plastic or rubber spiders in the center of the webs. You can also make your own spiders using different size pompoms and pipecleaners
Take red posterboad and draw spiderman heads as big as you can on the posterboard. Detail his face, cut out and tape to the wall. You can make about 4 to 6 spiders to go around each head that you make. This adds fullness to the walls.  Red blue and black balloons work good in corners on the floor or tabletop. To make your own balloon weight check out my Finding Nemo decorations where I show you step by step how to make your own balloon weight.
Make a Happy birthday  banner using red or blue posterboard or banner paper
I also like to add the birthday childs age all over the walls to fill in empty spaces. Just use matching colors.
I also encourage you to use your childs spiderman toys for decorations. Sit them everywhere.
If you have big toys, use them for a centerpiece on the party table(s).
The table can be covered with a spiderman tableclothSPIDER-MAN PLASTIC TABLECLOTH or you can make your own with a blue or red tablecloth, if you can find some spider webb sheer like material, place on top of the tablecloth.
Use toy or cake as the centerpiece.
Place any tiny Spiderman toys around the table
Sprinkle confetti
Tie two or three balloons to the toy centerpiece

Hope these simple ideas help you out, Don't forget to send me your pictures at crisha31@gmail.com
